You will be required to fill out a health history form. Afterwards, a consultation will take place where I will ask you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on, if there are any conditions needing to be addressed and to determine if massage is appropriate for you. In addition to this I may perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your condition, and to see if you have any presenting complaints. Your massage will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet treatment room. relaxing music may be played to help you unwind. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort.
For a full body massage, most people undress to their underwear. For a back, neck and shoulder massage, you just remove your top and women may choose to remove their bra. I will leave the room to give you privacy to undress, and you will be covered with towels at all times, except for the area being worked on. For certain treatments such as the Indian head massage, you may not need to remove your clothing.
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage, and avoid eating too much for a couple of hours. I sometimes recommend rest and a hot Epsom salt bath, as this encourages the release of toxins that may have been stirred up from the massage treatment
Any stiffness or pain experienced after a deep tissue massage is a completely normal reaction and should subside within 24-72 hours.
Everybody is different so this is a difficult question to answer. Generally I say that you always get more from your massage treatments if they are fairly regular, as you will stay on top of aches and pains. Sometimes it is appropriate to just treat someone once or twice to help with a particular issue or injury and that's all that is required.
During the treatment you may feel some discomfort and tenderness. However, you must always let me know if you are outside your pain threshold, and I can alter the treatment accordingly. You may also feel soreness after the massage, but this will ease the following day and leave you feeling relaxed and a lot more mobile.
I use a lovely range of organic massage oils from Neal's Yard. These oils have a blend of essential oils in a skin-softening oils base to help relax tired muscles whilst helping to boost your circulation. I also use a warming salve which contains soothing and warming ginger and juniper essential oils.
For client's with joint and ligament pain, I sometimes use Aloe MSM gel, which combines these two powerful ingredients with herbal extracts to provide soothing relief .
Alternative base oils are available for any clients who are allergic to essential oils.
